For the release of Mammoth WVH (Wolfgang Van Halen) debut album, I was approached by his wonderful team to create three lyric videos for the songs “You’re To Blame”, “Feel” and “Mammoth”.
Wolf and his team made this a great project to work on with lots of creative freedom. Check out the videos below.
You’re To Blame
For “You’re To Blame” I worked around the album artwork and photos, and the band’s pill shaped logo. After listening to the music I knew it needed to be grungy and somehow distorted so that’s the overall style of that video.
Feel
The song “Feel” made me feel like I was driving through the night (though I don’t drive), so I used driving and highway footage as a baseline for the video and distorted it significantly to achieve a very grungy look similar to “You're To Blame”. I also included some footage of their video for “Don’t Back Down” to keep things interesting throughout the video.
Mammoth
Lastly, my favorite of the three, “Mammoth”. For this one I did something completely different and had the idea of making a vintage video with old timey footage (50’s, 60’s) of people watching TV and have the lyrics be on their screens as some sort of PSA and words of encouragement directed at them. Then, the juxtaposition of the heavy music and the people happily dancing made the whole thing come together even better.
