Kat Von D - "Love Made Me Do It" Lyric Videos (x4)
For the release of Kat Von D’s debut album, “Love Made Me Do It”, I had the opportunity to work on four very different lyric videos for the songs “Enough”, “Fear You”, “Exorcism” and “I Am Nothing”. The overall sound of the album, which is very much 80’s inspired, is what defined the retro look of all four videos.
Enough
Listening to the song I imagined the lyrics displayed as 80’s retro movie titles, think of a Star Wars/Stranger Things kind of love child. Lots of echoes, repeaters, deep glows, displacement maps and texture overlays to achieve this look.
Fear You
For the “Fear You” video I took inspiration from 80’s computer terminal screens and based the video around that retro aesthetic.
Exorcism
Keywords for this one were catholic imagery, skulls, daggers, coffins, black, red and white. Footage of the artist was also added to the video and whole thing loosely resembled an 80’s horror movie.
I Am Nothing
Since this song was about heartbreak, I took the idea of things falling apart and “breaking in two” (as sung in the song), and showed that with a broken mirror/glass kind of look, making everything dreamy and ethereal and using the colors from the album cover.
